Vice Mayor Walker declared the Public Hearing open and asked for public comments.
John LaPietra, resident of Marshall, would like to hear some background on what modifications are being proposed.
John Clark, Post Cereals, asked that Mary Street be a permanent access for the truck route system. He noted that the intersection of Cliff Street and Elm Street is tight and stated that Mary Street has been widened. Therefore, Mr. Clark recommended trucks come down business I-194 to Dickman Road, turn east, make a right-hand turn onto Main Street, and immediately make a left onto Mary Street where the street has been widened.
Comm. Godfrey asked if Mr. Clark's suggestions were feasible.
Greg Rickmar, Traffic Engineer, noted the following proposed truck route changes that were included in the March 17, 2009, Commission packet. 1) Remove the now-vacated South Avenue between Hamblin Avenue and Fountain Street from the truck route system,(2) Add Fountain Street between Dickman Road and South Avenue to the truck route system,(3) Add Division Street between Hamblin Avenue and Fountain Street to the truck route system, and(4) Add Mary Street between Main Street and Elm Street to the truck route system. He believed that Mr. Clark's recommendations were feasible.
Comm. Godfrey stated that many of the homes along Mary Street are multiple apartment homes and asked how the increased traffic would impact the residents.
Greg Rickmar noted that Mary Street served as a temporary truck route last year during the business loop reconstruction and there was no record of any traffic crashes involving trucks.
Comm. Simmons asked what is the estimated volume of daily trucks on Mary Street.
Greg Rickmar replied that Post Cereals estimated 50 trucks per day.
Comm. Baldwin asked if the change in the map was Mr. Clark's recommendation.
Greg Rickmar answered yes.
Comm. Godfrey asked if the change is currently in place with a temporary traffic order.
Greg Rickmar said there is a temporary traffic order for 90 days expiring in two weeks.
Hearing no further comments, Vice Mayor Walker declared the Public Hearing closed. |
